Case study: Wagga Wagga

CDAT and library partnership

Drug and alcohol display

Wagga Wagga City Library hosted the Drug & Alcohol Info Hub in July 2018.

The Drug & Alcohol Info Hub was set up in a prime location on Level 1 of the library. Located in a high traffic area near the stairs and main counter, it was also visible from the street. The display included the interactive display panels plus an additional table to display the brochures and sample bags. Library staff reported that people were curious and keen to try the quiz and take showbags. The standard drinks resin glasses were visually very attractive, and when the beer goggles  were out, they also proved popular.

As a partnership with the local Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) the program also included a community  survey on drugs and alcohol in the community. The feedback from this survey will inform the inform the CDAT's Strategic Plan for Wagga Wagga.

On Thursday 26 July the Wagga Library in partnership with the local Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) held an event to acknowledge services that support people who face difficulties with drugs and alcohol. Representatives from local services such as Calvary Riverina Drug and Alcohol Centre, Community Mental Health, Headspace, Rivmed, Mission Australia, LikeMind as well as other support services attended the event. The event was successful with coverage on local television news.
