Series 55: Letter received by Banks from Robert Brooke, concerning the breadfruit voyage of HM Ships Providence and Assistant, William Bligh, 1792

Provenance note 

This document, previously located at ML A78-4, was purchased in 1884 from Lord Brabourne by Sir Saul Samuel, the Agent-General for New South Wales. It was transferred to the Mitchell Library in 1910 and was part of the accession which became known as the Brabourne collection. 

Background note 

Robert Brooke was the governor of the Atlantic island of St Helena at the time of William Bligh's second breadfruit voyage. HM Ships Providence and Assistant arrived at St Helena in December 1792 where breadfruit trees and other plants, collected in the East Indies, were deposited.
